My favorite book of all time - Miracle on Voodoo Mountain: A Young Woman's Remarkable Story of Pushing Back the Darkness for the Children of Haiti

I am an avid reader, between the written word and audio books, usually 200 to 300 books a year.  I consume a lot of really good books and some that I just can't finish but Miracle on Voodoo Mountain by Megan Boudreaux is by far the best.

I've bought copies for my granddaughter and for each of the Airbnb houses we own.  It is the only book that I have to stop reading at times just to take in what Megan is saying.

Quick review of the book.  Megan was a 24 year old just out of college, working for a hospital that sent her to Haiti a couple times.  She felt God calling her to move there.  She had no idea what she was supposed to do when she got there, but she moved anyway.

Haiti has never been a real safe place and as a 24 year old female, moving down by herself to Haiti was a courageous or risky move, depending on your perspective.  Since she felt God calling her, I'll say it was courageous but as a dad of girls, I doubt I would have been encouraging my daughters to move down there.

Shortly after arriving she met a little girl named Micha that was throwing stones at birds trying to kill one so she would have something to eat.  As a result of that meeting she decided to feed some of the local kids every Saturday.

As she spent more time with the kids she learned the truth that broke her heart, most of them were Restaveks, basically child slaves.  Their lives consisted of working for the adults that keep them, cleaning, carrying water, washing dishes and clothes and keeping the house clean.  Most never attend school.  The reality was a revelation to Megan and she knew she had to do more so she started a school, which has grown to serve 600 children.

There were so many miracles that took place in Megan's life I won't do justice in trying to recount them but if you want an amazing story of a young women stepping out in faith and changing the world, you should read this book.

It comes out in paperback on February 14th.  The hardback, Kindle and Audiobook have been available.  I've included the link to Amazon here.
